some photos I took of people with an Olympus OM10

I've decided to start a pckt blog to document some of my photography adventures \ messing around with cameras, so seems only fitting really to start kinda from the beginning with my first film camera, my favourite camera, and the best film camera ever made... in my opinion...

A selfie of me shot in a mirror on film using my Olympus OM10

I first picked up an OM10 in 2008 cos I wanted to get into photography more seriously and I liked the idea of going back to film and shooting what, to me, felt like more traditional photos.

I taught myself how it works by reading stuff on the Internet and buying photography books from charity shops, and then mostly through trial and error. I feel like every camera has it's quirks and you can only learn how to use it better by shooting with it more.

I tried to take my OM10 everywhere and being, at the time, one of the only cameras I owned, I used it quite a lot. The automatic shutter speed calculator is the Digital DSLR equivalent to shooting on shutter speed priority, and I tended to adjust the aperture until I was at 1/60 dropping to 1/30 only if I really had to, like in the above photo!

And to be honest that's mostly still how I shoot now! Although I tend to try and stick around 1/125 with my digitals, but very rarely crank up the ISO above ISO800!

If you want to see more of my photos, I have an online portfolio and semi active blog here: johnnyw.uk
